What’s New in the World of Wind
SEWC Statement on New Offshore Wind Report from Conservative Energy Network
The Conservative Energy Network (CEN), a coalition of 26 state-based conservative clean energy organizations, released a new study titled The Environmental and Economic Benefit Connection Between Offshore Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind Energy. The study highlights the substantial and often uncalculated environmental and economic benefits generated by offshore energy subsea infrastructure like offshore wind. Authored by net environmental benefit expert Joseph Nicolette, this is the first study in the world to apply the Net Environmental Benefit Analysis–Comparative Assessment (NEBA-CA) methodology to an offshore wind project.
After More Than A Decade in the Making, Timbermill Wind is Online
Last week, the wind industry celebrated a major milestone as Apex Clean Energy’s Timbermill Wind project began commercial operation in Chowan County, North Carolina. This 189 MW wind project — 45 turbines across 6,000 acres of farmland and managed timberland — will produce enough renewable energy to power up to 61,000 homes annually. The energy generated will be provided to Google through a power purchase agreement.
